Happy Bryce Harper Day

Bryce Harper

April 28 is officially Bryce Harper Day–a semi-official holiday marking the anniversary of his debut with the Washington Nationals.

Now, it sounds completely absurd to celebrate the anniversary of a 20-year-old baseball player just completing his first calendar year as a big leaguer.  But before you make that judgment, let’s look at Harper’s stats.

Since April 28, 2012–one full calendar year

Games – 162

Runs – 115

Hits – 175

Doubles – 31

Home Runs – 31

Stolen Bases – 19

Batting Average – .284

On Base Average – .355

Slugging Average – .518

These are all-star numbers for anyone.  But for a 19/20 old, they are difficult to comprehend.  For fun, let’s calculate his 2013 numbers projected over a full season.

*2013 “Projection”

Games – 162

Runs – 120

Hits – 218

Doubles – 35

Home Runs – 63

Stolen Bases – 7

Batting Average – .373

On Base Average – .453

Slugging Average – .783

I need to sit down.
