One key thing to remember about Bryce Harper playing the outfield. He is brand new at it, and not used to adjusting his game to different park dimensions. Denard Span, who is an exceptional outfielder (maybe the best in baseball) had trouble the first few week of the year playing in Nats Park. I firmly believed last year when the team broke camp in Viera and sent Harper to Syracuse, the sole reason was to give him more of a chance to practice his defense. Unfortunately for his outfield development, his bat was too good to keep in AAA. We are watching a very young player with a high aptitude, but little experience learn to play outfield on the fly. That is why we saw Harper misjudge the outfield fence on Monday.
