The conventional wisdom says that Yasiel Puig will run away with the Final Vote to became an all-star.
It’s hard to argue with that, but sometimes the conventional wisdom is wrong. Here are three reasons Nats Nation can rally Ian Desmond to an all-star spot.
1. Overconfidence. Yes, Puig had 842,915 write-in votes, which is just remarkable when you think about it, but that’s when he was a long-shot to make the team. Now, he’s a shoo-in, or so everyone is saying.
Wouldnt want to be up against Yasiel Puig in “final vote” as freeman desmond pence and a-gon are. Good luck. #puigmania

Overconfidence leads to inaction. Desi doesn’t need every Puig fan to phone it in, just enough to win.
2. Adrian Gonzalez. There are two Dodgers on the ballot. No matter what happens, the vote will be split. The Dodgers fans love Puig, but they love Gonzalez too, a Mexican-American sure to siphon off part of the the Dodgers’ sizable Spanish-speaking fanbase.
3. That mustache. Ian Desmond is first on the ballot–always an advantage. But more importantly, fans are gonna have to scroll through that mustache to get to Puig. Not happening, folks.
