Ian Desmond is still fourth in the MLB “Final Vote”, which sucks, because he totally deserves to be an All-Star.
Today’s county-by-county map posted on MLB.com is pretty interesting. Look at the State of Florida.
South Florida is almost entirely in the Yasiel Puig camp, which is not surprising considering the heavy Cuban-American population in that part of the state (Puig is Cuban). North Florida is almost entirely in the Freddie Freeman camp, which is also not surprising considering its proximity to Georgia.
But if you look carefully, there’s one blue dot on the Florida Gulf Coast, Ian Desmond’s home county, Sarasota. They’re the only county in Florida voting for Desmond. Ian, your home town has your back (it’s also my home town).
-Southern Virginia and North Carolina are clearly Braves territory. South of Richmond, Freeman is heavily favored over Desmond.
-Baltimore still favors Puig over Desmond, even though Nationals games are broadcast there nightly.
-Several counties (the ones in gray) had no votes at all. Some places just don’t care about baseball, especially out West.
